“The anger of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God.” James 1:20
There is nothing good that can come from being an angry person. There is no amount of defending our anger as justified, since man’s anger can never accomplish the righteousness of God, that can make being angry right.
There is no place that this is more true than in our homes. Often we feel safe to vent our anger behind closed doors where no one can see. Yet, this is where most of the damage from anger is done. Anger within the home will destroy that home if not kept in check. In the coming weeks we’ll see how unchecked anger can actually give evil spirits a place to wage war against us within our families (Ephesians 4:26-27).
But for now, remember this one thing about anger: being angry will never accomplish righteousness or anything good for you or those you’re angry at. If you are angry within your marriage God’s righteousness won’t come. If you get angry at your children God’s righteousness won’t help you raise them. If you are angry within yourself you are only hurting yourself and are not living out the righteousness of God He’s given you in Christ.
In the following articles we’ll look at a Biblical perspective of anger, how it can spread to those we love, and how to get rid of it so that the righteousness of God He intends us to share in can be obtained through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
