I wanted to share a little excitement with you and also a heart-felt “thank you.”
Today, in the U.S. we honor the men and women who have served our country. Many of us enjoy a parade, a family BBQ and a day of relaxing. Personally, I’ve been busy working, writing mostly. Later today I’ll head over to the hospital to visit a family member. And as I sat at my computer working and mentally preparing for the hospital visit, I looked over my computer screen to the beautiful day outside and started to feel a little…. oh, as pathetic as it sounds, a little left out of the fun usually enjoyed on this day. But then I remembered the many men and women who have served our country and protected the freedom of speech I employ as I tap Bible studies and articles out on my keyboard. What a gift. What a blessing! Historically speaking, it is a rare treasure for women to be able to pursue education and freedom of speech. I am thankful for that freedom and the many who have sacrificed to protect it. I don’t want to waste an ounce of it’s costly value. I’m also thankful for the hospital service that is afforded us in this country. I’ll admit I grumbled about the nutritional value of the sugary jello and yogurt that’s been served, but I am grateful for the opportunities we have in our country. So, perhaps this was the best way to spend Memorial Day after all!
For anyone out there whose served; for any wife whose watched her man fade off into an uncertain horizon; for the children whose births came without Papa at home or who have ached for Mom to come back soon–thank you. Thank you for all you’ve sacrificed and given. May God’s protection surround you and His presence draw you into the shadow of His wings.
And for those of you out enjoying the beautiful day, or for those of you who aren’t from the United States, today is an unofficial start to Summer so I wanted to give you a sneak peek at what’s coming in the Summer months.
From June 21st through the last week in August we are going to have an oodle of fun give-aways for you! As our Summer Refreshment series unfolds, there will be opportunity for you to personally participate in the activities. Each week there will be something to do that will hopefully bless your Summer with a splash of refreshment. You’ll have an opportunity to write in via fb or share photos (haven’t decided yet) via a pinterest group (any thoughts?). I’ll be posting how I participated too and hopefully we can stir up a little camaraderie. I love how the internet allows us to be connected to people even though Summer vacations take us in all directions!
Looking forward to sharing the journey with you!
