The Hope of Rescue

And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15 NIV

God’s plan for salvation was revealed little bit by little bit throughout the ages until finally His Son came to earth. This passage from Genesis reveals the first piece of the puzzle that made up His plan.

Shortly after Creation’s splendor and Man’s appearance on the scene, Adam and Eve did the one thing they had been warned not to do–eat of the Tree of Knowledge. It didn’t bring them the knowledge they expected. Instead of making Eve wise like God (Genesis 3:5), it opened her consciousness to the depths of evil. Innocence was shattered forevermore and the waves of consequences from that first choice are still felt today. However, when their Father God dealt with their actions, He did not leave them hopeless. In the midst of their sadness He gave them a glimmer of His plan to bring full healing and restoration to all that had become broken.

The first prophesy for deliverance is found just a few short verses after their Fall. Yes, there would be trouble (enmity), but God promised that in the end the initiator of the trouble would be crushed by One in the future. Romans 16:20 says, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (NASU).  God was ready with a rescue plan for His children – regardless of the way they had tossed aside His words.

I love that quality about our God. He is always faithful, even when we are faithless (2 Timothy 2:13).  Amidst all of our poor choices and disobedience He is there waiting to point us to the plan of rescue. No matter how far we have wondered or how badly we have entangled ourselves, He has a way out for us and and a plan to heal all our brokenness.
